According to the CDC, so far the 2020-2021 influenza season has been incredibly mild, despite the spike in Covid-19 cases throughout the country. CDC experts still recommend to get the influenza vaccine in late September or October and to practice good handwashing and isolation measures if one becomes ill. To read further about the seasonal flu, please follow this link to the CDC.

Congrats to the Nebraska PAs for update practice acts removing barriers for practice. L.B. 755 streamlines statutory language for the PA practice. This allows PAs to provide improved care to patients.

    • Scope is determined by PA's education, training, and experience (with similar physician scope within the practice)
    • Removes language stating that the PA is an agent of the supervising physician
    • Removes practice restrictions for PAs in hospital settings and those with less than 2 years of experience.
    • Clarifies that PAs may practice in remote settings.

On May 19th, Gov. Mark Dayton signed House File 1036, which removes statutory language mandating a PA-physician ratio of no greater than 5:1. This makes Minnesota the fifth state to achieve all of AAPA’s Six Key Elements of a Modern PA Practice Act! The bill also removes administrative burden for PAs starting practice by changing the Notice of Intent to Practice that had to be submitted PRIOR to practice to a Practice Location Notification, which must be filling within 30 days AFTER starting practice. In addition, the law includes a provision requiring the removal of the apostrophe “s” anywhere where “physician’s assistant” is present to the correct term “physician assistant”.
